Due to a disagreement over parking spaces between 3 neighbours, an entire Cheras street received fines from their local council, amounting to RM30,000.
Based on a report by China Press, this entire incident started between 3 neighbours, with the middle household feeling unsatisfied with their neighbours for using plastic items to block and hog the roadside parking spaces between their houses.
This led them to report the incident to the Kajang Municipal Council, which then issued warnings to the neighbours on both sides. However, this then led one of the other neighbours to complain to the Kajang City Council about the cars parked in front of their house.
As a result, law enforcement officers then arrived and residents of the entire street were hit with fines totalling RM30,000, over street parking.
The City Councillor visited the residents
City Councillor, Tan Kah Hoe, went to visit the residents living on that street, to learn more about the situation. He believes that compromise can help prevent incidents like this from happening again in the future.
“There are other places to park in this area. The problem is not the lack of parking spaces but the attitude of not giving in. They argued for more than an hour,” he said.
He also shared that the residents who received fines can have their fines cancelled by using their water and electricity bills to prove they are residents.
He ultimately reminded the neighbours to be more tolerant of each other, to avoid future disharmony.
