Scrambling to find the right parking coupons when you’re in a hurry can be a pain sometimes, which is probably one of the reasons why this state is switching things up! From April 1 onwards, all parking coupons for Perak will be standardised, with revised parking rates. While it currently costs RM0.40 for one hour, the revised rates will bump it up to RM0.30 for every 30 minutes, and RM0.60 for a full hour. One full day will cost RM4.

At this time, all 15 districts in Perak have their own parking coupons, but they will only be valid until March 31. According to state executive councillor Paul Yong Choo Kiong, the new parking coupon will make it easier for those who have to buy a different booklet every time they venture to another district of Perak. He also told Sin Chew that he has issued a letter to each district government, which permits all Perak residents to exchange their old booklet for the new one, should they have any unfinished booklets.

As of now, the booklets are already available for sale. Following the implementation of this standardisation, Perak will become the first state to have a uniform parking coupon, as well as standard parking fares. People of Perak, rejoice!

Back in January this year, the state had already made waves with the launch of a smartphone app called Park @ Perak that allows Perak residents to pay for parking via their smartphones, and eliminate the need to repurchase booklets. Those of us who live in Selangor may know of a similar app too, called Smart Selangor Parking.

What do you guys think of this development? We think it’s a great move, especially since we can relate to the struggle of finding the right booklet every time! More power to Perak-ians!
