Although our politicians can be very clever with their political campaigns, it appears that some have tried other means in the name of ‘creativity’.
Indera Mahkota parliamentary candidate Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah recently released his campaign video, which TikTok accounts quickly spotted comparisons with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s 2018 election campaign video.
According to the accusations, the Perikatan Nasional candidate’s campaign video was said to be suspiciously similar to the United States Congresswoman’s campaign video from 2018.
In the opening of the congresswoman’s video, Ocasio-Cortez appeared to be preparing for her day with her voice-over saying women like her were not supposed to run for office.
“I wasn’t born to a wealthy or powerful family“, said Ocasio-Cortez.
Similarly, in his very own video, Saifuddin was shown getting ready for his day with his own voice-over saying that a person like him was not supposed to have the opportunity to contest for positions.
“I wasn’t born to a privileged or powerful family.”
Meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez said that her mother was from Puerto Rico and her father from the South Bronx, whilst Saifuddin said that his father was an ustaz and his mother a teacher.
In yet another coincidence(?) Ocasio-Cortez then stated that she was born in a place where “your zip code determines your destiny” before saying her name in full whilst Saifuddin, on the other hand, said he was born next to Sungai Pahang, grew up bathing in the river and drinking its water, and then said his name in full.
“A New York for the many is possible. Vote for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez”, stated Ocasio-Cortez at the end of her video whilst Saifuddin said “An Indera Mahkota for all is not impossible. Vote for Saifuddin Abdullah.”
Saifuddin’s video has since been deleted.
