A good relationship is often hard to come by as it’s not easy to meet someone who is willing to compromise and accept you as you are.
To think praying in a temple actually worked?? Well, this is definitely the case for this couple according to China Press.
Love is just around the corner!
According to the husband, “I was 20 that time and I went to a temple located at Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong to pray. Just seconds before I met her, I went to pray for wealth and a life-long partner.”
As he turned around, he met Jiang Hui Yi, and he immediately knew that she was the one.
Turns out, Hui Yi was working at the temple, and he couldn’t resist the urge, so he went over to the counter she was working at and spoke to her.
All sunshine and rainbows?
Rishi who spoke fluent Mandarin mentioned that it wasn’t at all easy as it took 5 years to finally start dating Hui Yi.
“When we first met, I was 20 and she was 24, she thought that I was too young to date it took 5 years of courtship before she decided to give us a go on Jan 14, 2021.”
He then mentioned that whenever he was free, he would always head to temple so that he could chat with Hui Yi and when asked about his fluency of Mandarin, he said that he “picked it up” over the years by just listening to his Chinese friends speak.
Love knows no bounds
After over a year of dating, the couple then decided to get married! During their wedding planning, they both agreed that they would hold the ceremony at the place they first met, the temple.
As Hui Yi’s dad was the director of the Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple, her dad has made a request to the Taoist Federation’s Chairman, Tan Thiam Lye to officiate the ceremony. Together with their family and relatives as witness, this inter-ethnic relationship was blessed by the love and support they received.
The temple also then highlighted this marriage ceremony on their Facebook page last Friday, with a picture of Hui Yi in her red kua, and Rishi in a blue suit.
We hope that this serves as an encouragement that inter-ethnic marriages do happen and it’s definitely possible to embrace your own culture, despite ethnic differences. Congratulations to the newly-weds and may their love for each other continue to grow.
To those who are still waiting for the right one to sweep them off their feet, don’t give up as they could be right around the corner! Have you ever experienced something like this?
