In a place where everyone’s lovin’ it, what else can you do other than mingle and munch? You get married!
Lovebirds, Elson Tong and Yong Yong Qing, who are both 26 got married in a McDonald’s restaurant at the West Coast Park on July 19 after 7 years of dating. The idea of getting married in a McDonald’s was originally a joke that no one saw coming.
In 2021, Elson joked about marrying the buttermilk crispy chicken burger (available in McDs Singapore) because it has always been his favorite in the menu. Yong then asked her partner,
“Why don’t we just get married at McDonald’s then?”
It was merely a joke but later turned out to be an amusing idea for the pair, who always wanted a relaxing, simple and fuss-free wedding. Not only that but the idea was also to have a simple dress code, because the pair did not want to trouble guests with fancy and complicated dress codes, as reported by The Straits Times.
“We wanted our guests to be able to dress comfortably.”
A wedding ceremony involves a lot of parties, and parents, out of all people will definitely have an opinion about holding a wedding ceremony at a fast food chain. Their families were shocked at first but according to Elson, it didn’t take the elderlies long to accept the idea of their sons and daughters getting married at McDonald’s.
The invitations were sent out to guests and they were designed like McDonald’s coupons. For food and venue, Elson and Qing paid a total of SGD700 (approximately RM2,400) to the fast food chain.
The place was decorated with flowers, drapes and balloons. The wedding went on smoothly and Qing also thanked the employees of the fast food restaurant for their help, including the outlet manager who personally made sure everything was up to expectations.
Despite being held at a fast food restaurant, the couple said the venue was perfect and with the presence of their loved ones, it felt just like home.
“In the words of McDonald’s slogan, we’re lovin it!”
As long as the process is smooth and everyone is happy, there’s no issues of having your wedding at a fast-food joint. The best part is not getting yourself trapped in a huge debt for a fancy wedding.
