New and used vehicle store owners in Penang are being threatened through short message system (SMS), where a perpetrator is demanding RM10,000.
Should the store owner refuse the pay up, the perpetrator will then damage the vehicles at their store.
According to a report by Berita Harian, this is exactly what is happening in Georgetown as 10 premises selling new and used vehicles around the Timur Laut area have been hit with an acid-like liquid, believed to be paint bleach, causing 43 cars and 18 motorcycles to be damaged.
Timur Laut District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong has since shared that closed circuit camera (CCTV) footage detected a male suspect riding a Yamaha 135 LC motorcycle in the act of throwing plastic packages containing red liquid or paint bleach at the vehicles.
“The suspect was found to have committed the act alone between 3pm and 6am and after that, the same man is believed to have contacted the owners of the premises via SMS and asked for RM10,000.”
“If the owners of the premises refuses to pay, the suspect will threaten to repeat the act and until now, there are premises that have been sprayed with the liquid 3 times because they do not want to follow his wishes,” he said, adding that the authorities have received at least 12 reports in regards to this since May 2 (Tuesday).
A special operation has since been put into play in order to track down the suspect.
There may be a second perpetrator!
The police have allegedly also detected gunshot fragments and cracks on the glass of the premises.
“We found that the shooting did not involve any kind of firearm but it is believed that an air rifle was used. This act is believed to have been carried out by a suspect in a black Proton Wira Aeroback with tinted mirrors, and so far, the owners of the premises have not received any text messages or been contacted by the suspect.”
“We are investigating whether the 2 suspects and the case are related because in this incident, the premises were not sprayed with acid liquid but fired at,” he added.
It is reported that none of the vehicle premises owners have any debts with loan sharks.
We genuinely hope that the authorities catch the wrongdoers quick before more damage is done!
