Malaysia and Singapore are like siblings. Sometimes we fight, sometimes we take each other’s stuff and claim that it is ours but we know that we have each other’s back. Especially in dire times like right now, both countries are looking at providing the necessary support if needed.
After the MCO was introduced on the 18th, a lot of Malaysians who are working in Singapore had to make a choice; come back to Malaysia and stay put, or stay in Singapore and continue working to provide for their family in Malaysia. The main issue is, most Malaysians wouldn’t have a place to stay. Because of this, a lot of Singaporean companies have promised to provide shelter for the Malaysian workers but there are those who are unable to find a place to stay.
More and more Singaporeans have stepped up, offering their homes so that their Malaysian brothers could stay there at night before going to work the next morning. One of them goes by the name of Siam Kia on Facebook. Recently he posted that he was willing to open his new house in Bukit Batok for free. He wrote,
“I am offering help If you don’t mind to stay at my New BTO unit @ Bukit Batok for free. FYI: have electricity and water but no flooring and no rooms doors. PM me if you don’t mind to stay with that condition. At least you have a shelter from rain and a place to shower. I can provide portable light and fan.”
As mentioned by him, yes the house is not so complete but it is enough for any Malaysian workers who need the shelter as he has running water and electricity. What a kind-hearted man!
During a crisis, we often think that only the negative will come out of it. However, there are those who will prove to us that humanity still exists and this gives us hope to go through the Covid-19 pandemic.
