What is the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever done with a durian?
Well, people have become more and more creative with durians nowadays. Some thought that barbecuing this spiky fruit is a good idea while one man even thought of making a defensive wall out of the shells.
And one of the ‘best’ idea by far is definitely running a damn marathon while holding a durian. Yep, it really is a thing and it will take place in Singapore.
The Ci Yuan Community Club in Hougang, Avenue 9, Singapore thought it would be a good idea to have a 5KM Durian Run on July 23, 2017, Mothership reported.
In a Facebook post by the community group, they urged everyone to join.
“Ever run with a durian before? Here’s a chance for you to experience it.
“Take part in this Run For Good: Durian 5KM Run on 23 July.
“This is a fun run where all registration fees will be donated to Ang Mo Kio-Hougang Community Development Welfare Fund.
“Be part of this meaningful event!”
They really weren’t joking about the whole carrying-a-durian-and-running concept either. In the instructions posted on their website, you really have to race throughout the whole 5KM while holding onto a durian.
Okay, so it doesn’t sound like the safest thing ever. BUT, you can totally boast about this to everyone after you’ve completed this epic marathon.
Also, you get to go home with the durian you oh-so diligently carried! That’s a win in my book! Participants will also receive a shirt, medal and coconut. To get rid of the heat?
In addition to that, 20 lucky participants might even walk away with a Musang King durian in their lucky draw segment!

Unsurprisingly, this isn’t the first time there was such a durian run. In 2015, there was also a durian run. Thankfully, no casualties were reported.
It’s definitely a legendary durian race like no other. So sign up ASAP and maybe one day you can tell your grandkids this,
“You know, once upon a time, ah ma/ah kong actually did a marathon while carrying a durian.”
WORLD OF BUZZ wishes all participants the best of luck and hopefully there will be no injuries.
