On October 9, four students from UiTM Dungun were involved in a horrific road accident when a woman driving an SUV at high speed collided with their motorcycle, resulting in the tragic loss of 3 lives and leaving 1 person injured.
Just yesterday, Norizan Ismail was officially charged with murder in a magistrate’s court. The charges stated that she is accused of killing Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, 20, and Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, 20.
11 people were called in for questioning
Reports from Bernama say that the 49-year-old suspect, who is thought to be mentally ill and hasn’t received treatment at any state health facilities, doesn’t have a driver’s license.
Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin added that they’ve called in a total of 11 people for questioning to help with the investigation into the incident.
“Intent to kill”
Khairi explained that the witnesses called for questioning included those who were present during the incident, as well as family members of the suspect.
The mother of 3 has been charged under Section 302 and Section 307(1) of the Penal Code, following instructions from the Attorney General’s Chamber.
“Typically, in cases like this, police charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987. However, this time is different, as per the Attorney General’s instructions, and the suspect is being charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code.”
He further elaborated that this decision was made considering that there may have been a collision, where the suspect, while conscious, failed to stop the vehicle and dragged the victim for over 100 meters, indicating intent to kill.
