Kuching-born chef Michelle Goh made Sarawak and Malaysia proud recently after becoming our country’s youngest female chef to receive the prestigious Michelin recognition.
The co-founder of the Mia Restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand, Michelle is also the first-ever Sarawakian to receive the recognition.

She’s the co-founder of Mia Restaurant in Bangkok
Taking to its official Instagram account, Mia Restaurant announced that It was awarded a Michelin Star this year and expressed its gratefulness to its entire lineup of talented chefs, and diligent staff for their excellence in every dish.
Founded by Michelle and Thai Chef Pongcharn “Top” Russell, Mia Restaurant is a fine-dining restaurant that offers a seasonal tasting menu inspired by the chef’s formal training in Michelin-starred restaurants across Europe and Asia.
An accomplished chef at such a young age
Having vast experience in the culinary world despite her young age, Michelle was born and raised in Kuching, Sarawak and joined Le Cordon Blue Sydney in Australia at the age of 18.
There, she worked under well-renowned chef Anna Polyviou at the Shangri-La Sydney before joining 3-hatted Rockpool now known as Eleven Bridge by Neil Perry in Australia.
Besides that, Michelle had also worked for Pollen under Jason Atherton in Singapore before settling in Thailand and joining two Michelin-starred restaurants Suhring where she was put in charge of the pastry section at the young age of 23.
Chef Patron of the Mia Restaurant
According to The Borneo Post, Michelle is also the Chef Patron of the Mia Restaurant, which is located in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Soi 26.
In the world of culinary arts, Chef Patron refers to a highly skilled and experienced chef who owns and manages the restaurant on top of running the kitchen.

Prior to receiving the Michelin recognition for Mia Restaurant, Michelle had also been awarded the “Young Chef of the Year” award, while the restaurant received the “Best Dessert Menu” award by Bk Top Tables.
