The Sarawak state government is currently negotiating to bring in a famous artist from the United States (US) to perform exclusively in Kuching this October.

According to a report by TVS, Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the implementation of large-scale concerts in Sarawak will have a positive impact on the region’s tourism sector because it can attract visitors from neighbouring countries.

“If an event is held in Kuching, especially involving singers or entertainers who are known to the community in neighbouring countries, we can see a significant increase in the number of vehicles entering Sarawak from the border,”

“For example, during last year’s countdown event, the Tebedu Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS) experienced congestion for 3 consecutive days. They (visitors from West Kalimantan) knew that Hetty Koes Endang was performing,” he said.

While pointing out that legendary American R&B band ‘Earth, Wind & Fire’ will perform at the World Rainforest Music Festival (RWMF) 2025, he also highlighted the importance of local artists in participating in these large-scale events.

“It is important to include the participation of local artists in every large-scale event as an effort to build confidence and empower talents from the local creative industry,” he added.
