Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, is emphasising that Sarawak will follow its independent path and build a future of unity and multiculturalism that strengthens the state’s core, all while West Malaysia still argues over issues like ‘serving wine at dinners’.
According to a report by Oriental Daily, he explained that Sarawak in 2015, as compared to Sarawak now, is completely different because people used to look down on Sarawak.

He added that the state has now transformed into one to be looked up to.
“Here (in Sarawak), we don’t get caught drinking like in West Malaysia. Here, we just drink if we want to. It’s no big deal. That’s our way of life,” he said.
“People respect Sarawak”
While speaking at the Dance for Love 2025 charity dance gala, Dr Sim added that people respect Sarawak not because of any particular person but because Sarawak, as a whole, has done well.
Using the charity dance gala as an example, he insisted that cultural activities are also part of national construction.
