Firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station in Sarawak were left stumped after spending over an hour climbing a crane in a heavy downpour, only to discover that the person they were attempting to save was perfectly safe.
According to a report by Berita RTM Sarawak, two firefighters were designated to climb a 16-storey crane on the Jalan Kuching-Samarahan Expressway in Tabuan Jaya last night (12 February). They were responding to a report concerning a crane operator who was believed to have passed out.

A gruelling climb in heavy rain
Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Tan Min Chai, explained that the operation was activated after his department received a report that the operator had been unconscious on the crane since late yesterday evening.
The climb, which took more than an hour due to the hazardous weather and slippery conditions, was ultimately unnecessary. Upon reaching the cabin, the firefighters found the 41-year-old crane operator to be completely unharmed and conscious.
The reason behind the misunderstanding
It turns out that the crane operator had planned to spend the night in the cabin and had neglected to inform the site manager of his intentions. This lack of communication, combined with his failure to respond to calls, led the management to fear the worst.
Tan Min Chai further shared that the site manager claimed to have lost contact with the operator at approximately 5 PM. Consequently, there was no actual rescue or lowering operation required once the misunderstanding was cleared up.
