As the Covid-19 cases in Malaysia have reached an all-time high, the state of Sarawak has declared a ban on gatherings involving more than 50 people, with no date given for the lifting of this ban.

“This is the latest policy direction by the state government regarding the global Covid-19 outbreak,” said the State Disaster Management Committee said in a statement on Sunday (March 15th). As expected, the temporary measure has been taken by the state government as a means to curb the virus, according to a report by the Star Online.

As of Sunday, the 15th of March, the number of cases has increased to 20, with 11 new cases reported on the 14th of March. From the list of new cases, 8 of them are from Miri (contracted in the Sri Petaling Mosque event) and one each from Bintulu and Kuching.

As of the time being, all Covid-19 patients in Sarawak are being treated in four designated hospitals: Sarawak General Hospital (Kuching), Sibu Hospital, Bintulu Hospital and Miri Hospital.

Based on a tweet from Malaysia’s Health Ministry (KKM), the country recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in South East Asia yesterday (15th March), 428. Out of that, 190 cases were said to have originated from the Sri Petaling Tabligh event held in KL.
