The High Court has officially cleared Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor of 12 charges of money laundering involving over RM7 million, and 5 charges of failing to declare her income. The decision was made without going through a trial process.
Justice K Muniandy made the ruling after granting Rosmah’s request to have all the charges against her dropped, following her application to have them quashed, as reported by BERNAMA.
“The charges were flawed”
The application was submitted on the grounds that the charges were flawed and failed to include the necessary details that would outline key elements of the alleged offences.
The 73-year-old submitted the request to drop the charges back in September 2023.
The hearing began on December 12 of the same year, following some initial proceedings where 2 witnesses had already testified and provided their statements.
High Court judge granted Rosmah’s application due to a potential conflict
Just last month, Rosmah managed to get High Court judge Leong Wai Hong removed from handling her civil suit over the purchase of luxury goods worth US$346 million (RM1.64 billion) with money allegedly embezzled from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
During a Zoom hearing on November 19, Judge Leong explained that Messrs Skrine was representing the plaintiff (1MDB) in the case, which also involved investigations into 1MDB and her husband, Najib Razak, who was the Prime Minister at the time.
Judge Leong shared that Rosmah had filed an affidavit stating that the reason for requesting his removal was due to his past involvement with Messrs Skrine, where he worked as a partner and served as the Head of the Legal and Arbitration Division from 2011 to 2021.
After considering her application, Judge Leong decided to step down from hearing the case.
