In recent week in a lead up to the 15th General Election which is set to take place on November 19, activist and street artist Fahmi Reza has been using his platform to educate the youth and first time voters on the electoral process.

After his videos and livestreams of his #KelasDemokrasi had gained a following, Fahmi has since taken to the streets to host physical classes at various universities around the nation.

However, it appeared that not everything is for it as he has been banned and kicked out of certain universities.

Recently, a public university in Perlis found itself in the spotlight after Fahmi Reza’s class at their campus was interrupted by auxiliary police.

This prompted Fahmi to take his class to the streets right outside of the campus where he managed to rack up a huge number of students.

Aren’t universities supposed to be a place for learning?

Following the change in event venue, a picture of students sitting on the sidewalk whilst Fahmi conducted his class with a whiteboard in the middle of the road outside of the university’s campus has gone viral.

Netizens praised the spirit of the students and condemned the university for not letting Fahmi run his class.

“I pity the students of UNIMAP. They want to learn about the democratic system but their right is being stopped by those in power. (To the point where) they have to learn outside of the campus.”

A user said, “Actually the government should be the one giving the classes. But when a volunteer does it, they chase him out.”

“Students need to think why they are not allowed to learn a bipartisan lesson about (the) Malaysian democratic system and governance. If they do, they’ll know (that) they’ve been shortchanged by the government,” stated another user.

With Fahmi Reza confirmed to be hitting up a few more universities to come, will you be attending?
