Merdeka 118 Tower has achieved another major milestone for Malaysia on the global stage, after being officially recognised as the Best Tall Building by the Council on Vertical Urbanism (CVU).
The recognition was announced at the 2025 CVU Awards Ceremony in Toronto, Canada, which celebrates excellence in skyscraper design and urban planning around the world.

Merdeka 118 is named the world’s best tall building
Soaring 678.9 metres above the Kuala Lumpur skyline, Merdeka 118 is the tallest building in Southeast Asia and the second-tallest building in the world.
According to PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd (PNBMV), the award highlights the tower’s stunning architecture, world-class engineering, and strong commitment to sustainability, as reported by BERNAMA.
PNBMV Chief Executive Officer Datuk Tengku Ab. Aziz Tengku Mahmud said the recognition is a proud moment for Malaysia and everyone involved in bringing Merdeka 118 to life.
“From the start, our goal wasn’t just to build an iconic tower, but we wanted to create a space that connects people, celebrates heritage, and supports sustainable, inclusive urban growth. We’re proud to see that vision recognised on an international stage,” he said.

“The global recognition cements Malaysia’s leadership in sustainable urban growth”
PNBMV shared that Merdeka 118 now ranks among the world’s most impressive developments, celebrated for its stunning design, cutting-edge innovation, and commitment to building a greener, more sustainable city.
Built by PNB Merdeka Ventures, a subsidiary of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), the tower proudly stands as the shining heart of the Merdeka 118 Precinct.
Around it, landmarks like Stadium Merdeka and 118 Mall are being transformed into vibrant public spaces, supported by community-driven efforts like the Merdeka 118 Public Realm Enhancement Programme and the Merdeka 118 Community Grant.
All these initiatives come together under the Warisan KL project, which is breathing new life into the surrounding neighbourhoods and reigniting the community spirit in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
