The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested 8 individuals, including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and 2 top management personnel of a highway concession company, for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes involving the construction of 2 highway projects in the Klang Valley worth more than RM1.6 billion.
According to a report by Sinar Harian, the Datuk-ranked CEO, along with the 2 top management personnel, were remanded for 4 days until Friday (28 June), while the other 5 individuals who are the owners of the company, were remanded for 3 days until Thursday (27 June).
“The owners of the company involved 5 men who are all aged between 40 to 50, were arrested in Ops Lintas between 8pm and 11pm last night (June 25) when they appeared to testify at the MACC Headquarters.”
“The 3 suspects who work at the highway concession company are suspected of having asked for and accepted bribes from the owners of the company in return for a contract to take over the construction works previously carried out by another company worth more than RM1 billion,” a source shared.
Additionally, they are also believed to have asked for and received bribes involving the construction of a section of another highway project in the Klang Valley worth approximately RM670 million.
“The total value of the 2 projects is RM11billion.”
Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (PROLINTAS) has since acknowledged that their personnel have been arrested in this bribery case.
“Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (“PROLINTAS”) is aware that our personnel have been remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (“MACC”) to assist in an ongoing investigation relating to a construction case.”
“We are committed and are working closely with all relevant authorities to ensure full cooperation, in facilitating the investigation. PROLINTAS continues to be committed in maintaining the highest levels of integrity and corporate governance,” they shared.
