While most Malaysians have to rack their brains and find solutions to cope with inflation, some might even need to save up for their funerals.
Yes, you read that right. It’s all about the rising price nowadays and even funeral packages cannot avoid the price hike.
The Malaysian Funeral Association recently revealed that the prices of funeral packages are expected to go up as high as 20% by August 1 this year. This is due to the rising prices of funeral goods and prayer items which went up from 30% to 250%.
For instance, the 2-days 1 night package will rise from RM10,000 to RM12,000 and the funeral package for 3-days 2 nights will increase from RM20,000 to RM24,000, and so on.
Despite the rising price of goods, the association reminded other funeral businesses out there to be sympathetic during the tough times and to carefully consider if the decision to increase the price of funeral packages is final.
‘I can’t even afford to die now’
The news has sent some Malaysians into a spiral of questions about the cost of ‘dying’ which has proven to be as high as living.
“I don’t even want to think about dying now.”
“Rising price? That’s fine, at least I don’t have to think about dying now.”
“I can’t afford to die, so I might as well work hard and continue living.”
Another user highlighted how tough is life, and dying.
“Life is tough, and so is dying.”
A couple of users actually shared their thoughts on their funerals in the future, which is more cost-saving.
“When I die, just cremate me. Then bury my ashes under the tree or throw them into the sea.”
“I’ve told my children, just cremate me in the future. It’s time and cost-saving and they can keep the money to themselves.”
Are you shocked to hear about the possibility of the rising price of funeral packages? How much have you spent on a funeral for a death in the house?
