A pregnant woman had to rush back to Johor Bahru from Singapore by walking across the Johor-Singapore Causeway with her luggage and two-year-old son.

Jessie posted a photo on Facebook during her journey and explained her ordeal which attracted many netizens.

She told Sin Chew Daily that her son’s social visit pass could no longer be extended and that the Malaysian buses that were arranged to bring Malaysians back from Singapore would only arrive the earliest on 2 May. So, she decided to walk back to Johor Bahru on 27 April.

Jessie shared that her journey from Singapore to the Johor Bahru Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex took about six hours including the 40-minute walk across the Causeway. And because she was pregnant, she could not carry her son but had to let him walk on the road himself.

“I started from Singapore at about 8 o’clock this morning. Because I was pregnant, I couldn’t hold my child, and the child was too young to walk too fast,” she said.

“We walked for about 40 minutes crossing the Causeway before entering the Johor Bahru checkpoint. Later, after the inspection by the health officers, we were taken to a hotel in Johor Bahru for isolation.”

She also shared a photo of the hotel room and described it as small but clean, and that she felt satisfied and happy.

Jessie, who works in early childhood education as an assistant teacher in Singapore, had to return to Johor Bahru alone with her son as her husband still needs to work.

She said that she had applied for an Entry Permit from the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore on 23 April and received a reply on the 25th from the authorities.

“I heard that the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore currently only opens 400 places for people to apply for returning home, so I suggest that fellow citizens who want to return home should make an application by email three days ago,” she said.

Thank God Jessie and her son are safe in Johor Bahru after what must’ve been a tiring journey. We hope she will be reunited with her husband soon!
