As we may all very well know, city planning and the lack of proper facilities and access when it comes to our public transport is a real problem in this country.
Although we are all encouraged to utilise our public transport as much as possible, it seems that this is not made simpler by the authorities who seem to disregard and overlook our access to it in the very first place.
Recently, a post on Reddit went viral after a user had criticised a RapidKL bus stop in Sentul. In a picture shared along with the post, a metal fence was seen blocking the path to a bus stop which is on a road.
The user who shared the post wrote, “Bus stop next to Capers in Sentul. There is a fence directly in front with no opening until the end of the sidewalk. What’s going on here? Do you hop the fence and stand on the street? I’m not from MY, so I don’t really know?”
A temporary barrier?
According to another Reddit user, the bus stop is located at Caper Sentul, a brand new condominium which started construction in 2013.
“Before 2013, there was a bus stop, an actual bus stop. Look at google maps street view. Then, during construction of Caper, the developer destroyed the bus stop in June 2014. After Caper was completed, the developer put a metal fence and DID NOT REBUILD THE BUS STOP.”
The user then went on to slam DBKL for not caring enough about public transportation and for only caring about cars because all of them have ‘car brain’ and because they make money from cars and not from public transport.
Meanwhile, they explained that RapidKL can’t do anything because it is not within their jurisdiction since it should fall under the responsibility of DBKL.
Dismal city planning
The post has since gone viral on both Reddit and Twitter. Plenty of netizens took to the comments section to condemn DBKL for their lack of proper city planning.
“Some places in Malaysia, bus stops are more of a suggestion.”
“No planning actually. They just plop a bus stop or the fence without actually seeing the location. Typical DBKL style of work,” commented a user.
On the other hand, a few netizens attempted to make light of the issue and joked on what a commuter would need to do to get pass the metal fence to catch the bus.
“An initiative to birth more hurdling athletes.”
“They want us to jump. So we can be healthier and burn calories,” commented a user.
Another user said, “Just take it as that bus stop is for cats. Cats can jump over fences.”
What do you think of the matter? Is it simply poor city planning? Let us know in the comments.
