Weapons possession should not be taken lightly because they have the potential to cause deadly consequences. This was understood by policemen who recently arrested two men for possessing weapons in public.
On Saturday (September 17, 2022), police arrested 2 men dressed in cosplay and carrying fake weapons.
This incident that took place at the Let’s Anime Cosplay Event at a shopping centre in Damansara Jaya caused a bit of a commotion.
Petaling Jaya Deputy District Police Chief Superintendent Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said that the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) received a police report at 4.30pm about 2 men dressed in tactical gear complete with fake weapons in the compound of the shopping center.
According to him, acting on information, a police team then arrested them.
“After an inspection, police successfully confiscated an M4-type imitation weapon, a Glock-type imitation pistol and 2 imitation hand grenades.”
“A review of past records found that the suspects have no record of past offences“, he said in a statement yesterday.
Ku Mashariman said the suspect was remanded for 3 days starting yesterday to assist the investigation in accordance with Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960.
“Polis Jaya advises the public not to buy or possess fake weapons on purpose because it is against the law“, he said.
Netizens are confused
In the comments, netizens question the necessity of the arrest as the weapons were merely toys, hence would not cause any harm.
They asked about what would happen to children’s toy guns as they are commonly sold in the market, to which one person responded, “If it looks exactly like a real weapon, then it’s not allowed. Only kids’ toys are allowed“.
Another netizen also added that only guns’ with a orange muzzle are allowed. Hence, netizens praised the police for acting swiftly.
“It’s dangerous. People think they’re just toys, but what if they’re real? Good job, PDRM!”
Perhaps everyone should be more careful about buying fake guns that actually look real next time!
