Perak Perikatan Nasional (PN) has announced that it will be holding discussions with Barisan Nasional (BN) about forming the state government in Perak soon. This is following the result of the 15th General Election (GE15) yesterday which saw the state election in Perak mirroring the situation at the federal level, whereby there is a hung Perak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) in which no party has the required seats for a simple majority.
As reported by Bernama, there are 59 DUN seats up for grabs in Perak, with PN winning 26 seats, PH 24 seats and BN 9 seats. In order to form the state government, a party or coalition must win at least 30 seats for a simple majority, hence both PN and PH would be looking to gain support from BN to become the new Perak government.
In a press conference in Ipoh today, Perak PN Deputy Chairman 1 announced that discussions will only be held with BN as the coalition has been staunch on not working with PH. He stressed,
“A total of 30 seats are required for a simple majority to form the Perak state government. PN lacks four state seats so we will work towards forming a government to administer the state and hold discussions with others for this purpose,”
“For now, it’s like how we’ve explained, we will not be together with PH, no Anwar no DAP. About that matter, there is room for our friends from BN,”
However, the discussions with BN to form the new Perak government will only commence should Perak PN receive approval from the coalition’s leaders at the central level. So, what do you guys think of this statement by Perak PN? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
