A former prime minister came under fire after announcing a new plan to unite Malays under one umbrella through the Malay People’s Secretariat, as part of an effort to “restore Malay power.”
PKR Youth hit back at Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s idea to merge all Malay-based parties into one big coalition, calling it a desperate and provocative move, according to Sinar Harian.

“PN pretends that it can unite the Malay community”
PKR Youth Deputy Chief Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the current Madani government under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is made up of different parties, has strong Malay leadership, and represents diverse communities across the country.
He further said Perikatan Nasional (PN) still relies on negative, confrontational politics.
“PN likes to act like it can unite the Malay community, despite the fact that Dr Mahathir and PAS have repeatedly caused division within the community in the past. Dr Mahathir himself left UMNO to form Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), and later Pejuang, while PAS ended its Muafakat Nasional collaboration with UMNO,” he said.

“What does he mean by ‘restoring Malay power’?”
Taufiq added that the stability and progress under the Madani government have left the opposition with nothing solid to offer the people, causing them to revert to old rhetoric.
He said that PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, PN Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and Bersatu Deputy President Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin were also present during Dr Mahathir’s announcement of the new coalition.
“What exactly does Dr Mahathir mean by ‘restoring Malay power’? That gathering involved disappointed leaders trying to distract the public with false narratives. PAS supports Dr Mahathir’s claim that a new coalition is needed to restore Malay unity. Tuan Ibrahim should realise that Dr Mahathir’s proposal to unite all Malay-based parties into one large coalition is a desperate and provocative move,” he added.
With that, he also called on the Malay community to move forward and not fall for these kinds of irresponsible claims.
