Although education is important and often a priority for most students, sometimes, time and energy would also need to be spent on trying to earn some form of income through part time jobs and side hustles to sustain their lifestyle.
Twitter user @najihahshahrel recently took to the app to share how she is proud of students who work part time or have side hustles in order to earn some money to survive.
Students sekarang rajin. Banyak yang I jumpa, mesti akan ada part time job or side hustle.
Part timer yang I hire, sambil attend online class, dia wrap parcel. Very smart.
Time break, dia buat assignment or study.
Proud to see these kind of students.

In a tweet she wrote, “Students nowadays are very hardworking. Most of the ones I meet will often have a part time job or a side hustle.”
“The part timers that I hire, wrap parcels whilst attending online classes. Very smart. During break time, they will do their assignments or study. Proud to see these kind of students.”
Some users praised such students and shared their own experiences
The tweet has gone viral and currently sits on over 11,000 likes and 3,160 shares. Some users took to the comments section to praise such students as well as share their very own experiences in having to do the same.
One user said, “I used to work in catering and as a promoter on the weekends. Did all of my assignments during weekdays.”
“Although my results weren’t amazing, I’m happy as I managed to get a lot of money, got to know a lot of people and gain useful knowledge. Worth it,” added the user.
“During my first year I studied while working part time at my university’s kiosk, managed to get some money. During Covid, during class I would work at a restaurant. The experience is great even though I worked before I was supposed to,” commented another user.
“I love reading this tweet! I always hear people condemning students nowadays for being too spoilt but not all of them are,” said a netizen.
Others condemned the practice
However, not everyone appeared to agree with the tweet. Some users believe that students should not work and should solely focus on their education.
“Pity them… student life should be fun and not being a part of the working class,” said a user.
Another said, “As much as I respect this attitude in our students, I’m also concerned, what happened to our economy or families in our country?”
Meanwhile some users condemned the tweet for glorifying the practice and said that it is not something that should be normalised.
