Landed houses are really expensive in Kuala Lumpur. In certain areas, a small terrace house might cost up to RM400,000 or more!
In order to get their dream houses, some Malaysians have settled for smaller and older houses to conduct major renovations on them.
One Malaysian by the name of Katherine Soh did exactly that! Katherine and her partner bought a small, old house and managed to turn it into a Muji-concept house, without employing an interior designer!
Katherine posted before and after photos of the house and it has been well-received by many Malaysians who have shared the post 19,000 times on Facebook. In the caption, Katherine mentioned that she took four months to finalise the renovation plans and the contractors got to work in August 2020.
She added that it was a lot of work since they didn’t employ an interior designer, so they had to do everything themselves no matter how trivial the task was. She also mentioned that they did not hire a painter and had to paint the whole house themselves too.
With the plain white walls, warm lights, and wooden panels on the floor, the whole place looks very cozy. As Katherine is petite, her partner took the liberty of customising the stove to her height so that she won’t have to experience back pain.
They also made a good decision to close up the back area of the house to make it into a laundry room so that they will not have to worry about rain or other extreme weather circumstances.
Katherine shared that she is very grateful to have an understanding partner who compromises with her and is considerate.
