It has almost been a month since Pakatan Harapan took over as our new government, and many things have been established since, such as our newly appointed cabinet ministers and the abolishment of certain laws. Things seem to be going at a steady pace, but now, members from the opposition party are expressing great interest to join PH, and our deputy prime minister is not frowning at the idea.
“We are always excited if anyone wants to join us. We want all Malaysians to come together to rebuild the nation that we love anyway.”
These were the words uttered by our Deputy Prime Minister Datul Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail yesterday (May 29). She said she endorsed the idea of having Umno members be part of Pakatan Harapan (PH), provided that everyone is on the same page, reported the Malay Mail.
She added that it is more important for everyone to work towards the rebuilding of the nation. Malaysia first!
“Admittedly, there are differences in opinion but when we reach a point where the people have the final say, we only care about having a solid government for all,” she told reporters after attending an event in Lembah Pantai today (30 May).
Earlier, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had rejected Umno members who wanted to join PH as he was unsure if the party was legal or not.
However, he contradicted this decision by saying that PH will now accept Umno members but they must first become independent.
He then added that the coalition receives approximately 1,000 membership applications daily and that most of them are applicants from Umno. Whoa, that’s a massive amount!
While the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister are willing to accept this idea, most Malaysians don’t seem to be open to it just yet, as evident by some of these comments:
What do you think? Should Pakatan Harapan accept Umno members and work together with them for the country? Let us know in the comments below!
