Giving birth can be a stressful event, which is why support is needed not just from loved ones but also medical practitioners. But what do you do when these medical practitioners let you down?

A woman in Penang had to give birth in a car while she was on the way to the hospital, as told by the Penangku Viral Facebook page.

They wrote, “The mother and the new born baby are fighting for their lives because of a hospital’s ridiculous SOPs. At about 11am, the patient registered to be admitted into the maternity ward after showing signs of labour. At 12:30pm, the doctor checked on the patient and the opening (of the cervix) was 2cm.”

Then, at about 3:45pm, the woman was asked to head home as the doctors expected it would be a while before she delivers.

“The patient begged to stay on at the ward because she lives in Sungai Ara Bayan Lepas, on the island (of Penang).”

As the hospital is on the mainland, it would take time for the patient to reach the hospital should the birth happen but her requests were turned down.

She then reached home at 5:15pm. At 7pm, she informed her husband that she needed to go to the hospital again.

“They rushed to Hospital Besar Pulau Pinang. With heavy traffic, Waze estimated a 50 minute journey there while Hopital Seberang Jaya was 1 hour and 20 minutes away.”

“Unexpectedly, the patient ended up giving birth in the car on the way to the hospital.”

Due to the intense situation, her husband brought her to a private hospital where they had to endure unplanned costs.

We genuinely hope that both the mum and the new born baby recover from this incident and are doing okay.

What would you have done if you were in her shoes? Share your thoughts in the comment section and stay tuned for more updates!
