The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has opened an investigation into a victim claiming to have been made into prostitution by a money lending syndicate, also known as ah longs or loan sharks, to pay off her father’s debt.

According to a report by Harian Metro, the Penang Police Chief, Datuk Hamzah Ahmad, shared that his party cannot disclose further details as this case is still under investigation.

“It’s still in action, it’s just that we cannot reveal more as it is still under investigation. The initial report has been received by the police and we have opened an investigation paper,” he said.

Where it all started.

Before this, a Heart 2 Heart segment video by BGTV, where people can call in to share their problems, had gone viral as the victim had called in to share her hardships.

In the video, the victim, identified as 26-year-old Isha, tearfully revealed that her father, who is divorced from her mother, owed loan sharks RM20,000 but failed to repay it. The father also allegedly gave the victim’s home address to the loan sharks.

Following this, the victim was then apparently forced to work in a ‘red house’ (prostitution house) in Penang as a prostitute without being paid since February.

The terrified victim begged to be rescued but the call was then cut off as her ‘boss’ had arrived.

BGTV has since shared an update to explain that they had filed a police report regarding this matter and will cooperate with the police in the investigations if needed.

You can check out the video of the victim’s statement here.
