For the past few weeks, we have encountered some selfish people who refused to obey home-quarantine rules which lead to the formation of new clusters. However, these siblings from Penang have shown us that there are Malaysians out there thinking about the greater good of the country.
Vasugi Ramasamy and her brother Suriya Kuppusamy from Taman Kesumba, Sg Bakap, Pulau Pinang have been performing a noble act where they collect dirty masks that have been thrown around their vicinity.
Vasugi works as an Accounting Clerk at Econsave, Nibong Tebal while her brother is a student at ILP Nibong Tebal and every day on their commute, they noticed dirty masks thrown around.
Instead of ignoring the mess, they decided to take action and started to collect all the dirty masks on the road from Sungai Bakap to Nibong Tebal (approx. 7km journey)
They started their mission yesterday morning, August 17 with the intent of collecting these masks to reduce the spread of any germs, bacteria and viruses during this pandemic.
“So friends, please think before removing the face masks that are being used everywhere. How do we know if the elderly and our children are healthy or whether they have a strong immune system? So they could be the first people to be attacked by Covid-19.”
She added that at a time where everyone’s lives are being hindered by the pandemic, is when we should all be maintaining utmost hygiene levels. “The health and hygiene of the country is all our responsibility,” she said. Vasugi ended her post by reminding all Malaysians to not throw their masks carelessly.
Kudos to Vasugi and Suriya for taking the extra mile and performing this noble act. We hope more Malaysians take heed their advice and learn to dispose of our masks correctly!
