Homestays are a great alternative for hotels, where homestayers have a selection of more affordable options while homeowners can make an additional income.
But sometimes, homestayers can cause a nuisance within housing areas as instead of seeing their homestay as a place to sleep for the night, they see it as a party pad.
The Batu Ferringhi Residents Association has since taken to their Facebook page to voice their disapproval over homestays, calling for homestayers to stay out of their neighbourhood due to the nuisances their create during their stay.
They wrote, “Homestays and homestayers are not welcome in our neighbourhood! You party all night long while we have work and school tomorrow. You scream, yell and sing with no consideration for us trying to rest. Your rubbish overflows onto our roads after you leave. And your cars and tourists buses block our residential roads.”
“Stay out and keep out! WE WANT YOU TO KNOW YOU ARE NOT WELCOME!!”
They have since also put up multiple banners around their neighbourhood of Taman Sungai Emas, in an effort to double down on their message and keep homestayers away.
“Homestayers – keep out! Taman Sg Emas is a residential area, not a party venue!” the banners read.
What would you have done if you were in the shoes of the residents?
