Regular citizens aren’t the only ones who get summoned!

The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department and the Standard Integrity and Compliance Department and Special Branch of Kedah IPK conducted an unexpected examination at the entrance of the Kedah Contingent Police Headquarters yesterday (15 March) and issued summons to a group of police officers who were committing traffic offences.

Authorities conducted multiple inspections including the examination of private documents, vehicle inspection, and safety pass inspection.

Many vehicle owners including officers, members, and staff of the PDRM Contingent force in Kedah were given summons for breaking traffic laws such as putting ‘fancy’ number plate registration that does not follow the specifications of the law.

Previously, PDRM in Johor started hunting down vehicle owners who used number plates that did not follow the specifications, including members of their own force.

Owners of fancy vehicle numbers can be prosecuted under Section 14(4) of the Road Transport Act 1987, Rule 6(1) LN173/69, and Section 108(3)(F) 1987.

According to Section 108(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987,

“If any person exhibits on any motor vehicle any licence or identification mark, plate or document which does not belong to such vehicle, he shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM20,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not exceeding five years or to both.”

Meanwhile, Section 14(4) states:

“If a registration number is not displayed in accordance with this section, the driver or person in charge of the vehicle while it is being used shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine of not less than RM300 and not more than RM3,000.”
