The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) was alerted by a gruesome discovery in Penang yesterday (9 October), in which a corpse was found stuffed into a suitcase near the Ampang Jajar flat.
Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abdul Rahman, Seberang Perai Utara district Police Chief, confirmed the finding and said the body was discovered by a cleaning company employee at 1:43 PM yesterday.

Judging from the wounds, police estimated that the victim was recently murdered, and had his throat slashed, as well as both his hands tied, reported Berita RTM.
Last night, the identity of the deceased was confirmed to be the 31-year-old Daniel Lee, who lost contact with his family on 7 October (Tuesday).
Daniel texted his mother, who suspected it wasn’t her son
News about Daniel’s disappearance circulated on social media, and in reports by China Press, Daniel was last seen on Tuesday evening. However, he allegedly texted his mother at 1 AM, informing the latter that he was headed to Perlis and may come home late the next day.
His mother, however, suspected that the text was sent by someone else, and not Daniel.

Before the text at 1 AM, Daniel also did not respond to any group chats. It is also understood that Daniel was supposed to bring a new colleague to a meeting on Tuesday, but he never made it.
The colleague tried to contact Daniel, but to no avail. The victim worked as a sales worker in the insurance industry.

Daniel’s family reported the matter to the police before his body was found in the suitcase. His father was at the hospital last night to identify the body and declined to speak to the media.
At the time of writing (10 October), Daniel’s car and personal belongings have not been found.
