The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has arrested a woman in Batu Berendam, Melaka for allegedly stealing RM520,000 of her husband’s business money. The 35-year-old woman was arrested in a raid in Taman Merdeka in Batu Berendam on Wednesday (25 January 2023) following a report by her husband who claimed that the cash kept in two safe deposit boxes at his home was missing.

As reported by BERNAMA, Melakta Tengah District Police Chief ACP Christopher Patit said that the complainant, who runs a licensed money lending business suspected his wife of stealing cash from the safes as there was no damage to them. During the raid, PDRM also seized an iPhone 12 Pro Max mobile phone and the suspect was remanded for two days on 26 and 27 January 2023 but was later released on police bail.

Christopher further revealed,

“On Jan 4, at about 6.30 pm the 37-year-old complainant returned to his home in Permatang Pasir, Alai from Kuala Lumpur and checked two safe boxes on the second and third floor and found that the business cash was missing.”

“The amount of cash in the two safes is approximately RM520,000 and the safes also contain other cash, the amount of which cannot be ascertained, as well as jewellery belonging to the complainant’s mother,”

The woman reportedly had problems with her husband and during police interrogation, she did not admit to being involved in the case. She also lodged a police report to clear herself, claiming that she had returned RM280,000 to her brother-in-law at a petrol station in Semabok.

Furthermore, the brother-in-law also lodged a police report of having received the money. However, PDRM clarified that the woman did not return the remaining amount which is why the case is ongoing. When asked, the woman claimed that it was only a fixed deposit document and not cash.

As of the time of writing, the case is still under investigation under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in dwellings. So, what do you guys think of the whole situation? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
