2 men in Penang were recently arrested by PDRM to assist in an investigation after both were reported for selling door mats with the images of the mosque and Ka’bah, the place of worship for Muslims in Mecca.
In an official statement by the acting Penang Police Chief, Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the 26-year-old and 41-year-old men who were arrested were the owners and workers of the bazaar respectively.
The duo were selling door mats at a bazaar in Georgetown, Penang.
“The police initially received a police report from a local man yesterday, who found that the door mats he bought at the bazaar contained patterns resembling the shape of the mosque and the kaaba.”
The claimant lodged the police report after buying the door mats from the vendors.
Both men involved were remanded to assist the investigation which was carried out according to Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offenses Act 1955.
At the same time, PDRM also advised the public not to make any speculations that could touch the sensitivities of any party and interfere with police investigations.
Previously, KK Mart was under fire after some of its outlets were found selling socks with Allah’s name imprinted on them. The CEO of the convenience store has since apologised for the matter despite the call for a boycott against the brand.
Do you think that the mosque design on the doormats is merely a blunder?
