Earlier this week, it was reported that the Penang UMNO Youth division will be present in Penang today (August 14) to visit the hardware store that went viral for hoisting an upside-down Jalur Gemilang. DAP, on the other hand, announced that they will be present to welcome the UMNO division while distributing 831 flags.

Now, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is telling them to call it all off.

According to a statement, PDRM is advising all parties to cancel their gatherings related to the Jalur Gemilang issue, which is expected to be held in Bertam, Penang, today.

Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, shared that PDRM views every issue that has the potential to affect the safety and well-being of the people very seriously.

“In order to ensure that the safety of the local community is maintained, PDRM advises that all parties involved cancel their intended gatherings,” he said.

Mohd Khalid added that his department is conducting an investigation into the issue of the hoisting of the upside-down Jalur Gemilang, as a total of 38 reports have been received nationwide, which includes 17 in Penang and 21 in other states.

“This investigation includes action against the individuals who recorded and distributed the recording under the provisions of Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,”

“The investigation papers were submitted to the Public Registrar’s Office, Penang, on August 11 (Monday) and are currently being reviewed by the relevant parties,” he explained.
