The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) issued a total of 372 summonses today as part of a New Year’s Eve special operation conducted by the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department. Through the operation, 26 roadblocks were mounted around Kuala Lumpur with 841 vehicles inspected and 848 individuals searched by the police.
According to Bernama, Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Yahaya Othman elaborated that the summonses were for various offences and that 230 PDRM personnel were involved in the carrying out of the operation. 10 motorcycles were also seized by PDRM after they were found to have been modified beyond what is allowed by the law.
Speaking to the media at Jalan Loke Yew earlier today, Yahaya Othman asserted,
“A total of 619 motorcycles were inspected, cars (171), vans (19) and jeeps (32), while a search was conducted on 848 individuals,”
Besides that, the police also arrested 12 individuals aged between 15 and 21 years old under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. Furthermore, another four individuals aged between 23 and 50 years old were detained under Section 45 for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief stressed that the operation was carried out to ensure smooth traffic flow during New Year’s Eve celebration and to help reduce fatal road accidents. So, what do you guys think of the operation? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
