PAS Penang has called for a Songkran event that is taking place in Batu Feringghi this weekend to be cancelled, claiming that Malaysians are offended by the programme.

In a statement, PAS Penang Information Chief and Member of Parliament (MP) for Permatang Pauh Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan asserted that the programme, Sonic Splash Songkran Music Beach Party hosted by the Feringghi Heart Beach Club Malaysia, clearly promotes indecency and lowers one’s dignity.

Fawwas was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying that while entertainment programmes are allowed in Malaysia and by religion, they must follow the set rules and procedures.

He added,

“PAS Penang is disappointed about the spreading of advertisements promoting this programme which offends Malaysia. Malaysians, who are rich in noble and Eastern values, are seemingly being challenged by this event.”

The Permatang Pauh MP stressed that hedonistic cultures that go beyond the limits of decency shouldn’t be allowed, let alone celebrated.

Fawwaz further warned that this Western-oriented lifestyle will result in the degradation of values in society.

Hence, he urged the Penang State Government and the Penang Island City Council to cancel the programme and block any programmes that go against the set rules and procedures, especially events that promote immorality.
