The government said earlier that inviting United States (US) President Donald Trump to next month’s 47th ASEAN Summit would give member countries a chance to directly voice their stance on the Palestinian issue.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil added that Trump’s presence would allow ASEAN nations to show their strong support for Palestine and call out the hypocrisy of some countries in handling the matter, according to Sinar Harian.

“Trump is the big devil”

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has issued a warning following Putrajaya’s invitation to Trump, whom he described as the “big devil,” accusing him of openly siding with Israel in committing extreme atrocities against Muslims in Palestine, especially in Gaza.

In a Facebook post, Abdul Hadi slammed the United States for not only using its veto power to block these rulings but also for openly supplying Israel with weapons and military aid under Trump’s orders.

“Tens of thousands of children have already fallen victim to his violence, and the number is even greater if you include women, the elderly, and hospital patients. Israel has also destroyed homes, refugee camps, and houses of worship, even killing humanitarian aid workers. Their crimes have been proven by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and condemned by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC),” he wrote.

He also said the US had supplied Israel with weapons that are banned under international law.

“Donald Trump has also become the big devil, fooling the world by acting like a peacemaker while pushing Palestinians fighting for their land and lives to give up their weapons,” he added.

The PAS president argued that inviting Trump is unacceptable

Abdul Hadi, who once served as a special envoy to the Middle East, argued that the reason for inviting Trump to the ASEAN Summit was weak and unacceptable.

“This is happening at a time when countries across the world, including non-Muslim nations and even Americans themselves, are starting to boycott Israel for its blatant violence, with Trump standing firmly behind it,” he said.

He also accused Trump of trying to entice Palestinians with massive financial aid in exchange for agreeing to the two-state solution. Otherwise, he said, Palestinians would be forced to leave their homeland and give in to Israel, which continues to grab whatever land they have left.

“But the Palestinians, with their dignity intact, rejected all of these offers. As the so-called great Satan, Trump also tries to sway Muslim and Arab leaders into bowing down to him,” Abdul Hadi added.
