The sight of youths entering clubs and welcoming 2026 with alcohol does not sit well with a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS).
Ustaz Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan recently expressed his disappointment in Parliament when he spoke of punishments for drunk drivers. Fawwaz asked whether the government planned to impose stricter laws to discourage drink driving, saying drunk drivers have caused many fatalities on the road.

He called for drunk drivers who caused the death of others to immediately be required to financially compensate the victim’s next of kin.
“If this measure is not carried out, it would be a great injustice to the victims and their families,” Ustaz Fawwaz said in Parliament.
Youths celebrating the New Year in bars with alcohol is saddening
Shortly after, Ustaz Fawwaz mentioned the New Year celebrations among the youths, which he cited as “very saddening.” He highlighted what he saw on social media videos, with youths rushing into clubs and bars to welcome 2026 with alcohol. He questioned whether the relevant authorities, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Ministry of Health (MOH), and the government, had plans to curb these immoral issues.
Fawwaz also linked this incident to “imported festivals”, such as Halloween.
“Do agencies like the police, local councils, home ministry and health ministry conduct monitoring and enforcement operations during festive seasons?”

Additionally, Fawwaz also questioned relevant authorities on the possible solutions to curb LGBTQ issues in the country.
For the record, many youths were caught celebrating the New Year with drugs, with one of them getting caught while heading back to Malaysia from Thailand, in which the youth had consumed a beverage laced with drugs.
In July last year, a large group of university students was also arrested at a house party with drugs on site, and four of them were linked to drug trafficking.
