Following the alleged postponement of his appointment as the ambassador to Indonesia, Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman is once again in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
Being a notorious figure in Parliamentary sessions, his reputation preceded him as today’s session erupted into chaos due to his comments when the other MPs debated the Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill.
During the debate, Tajuddin claimed that female DAP MPs are ‘vulgar’, causing an uproar among the MPs.
The incident took place after he, along with two other government MPs, were called out yesterday for being sexist for making statements about the women elected as representatives in the Dewan Rakyat. Tajuddin went on to claim that those calling him out was only doing it to make them look bad.
“I want to tell you, they don’t know these three people? How we take care of women’s dignity, how we help women. You don’t know how we treat our wanita (women),”
“Our problem now are the women in DAP, vulgar behaviour, obscene mouths!”
The other two MPs who were called out for sexist statements against women in Parliament are Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar and Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.
Multiple representatives, including Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, Rasah MP Cha Kee Chin, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh and Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto called for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon to take action against Tajuddin, adding that he must retract his statement and apologise.
While Datuk Mohd Rashid issued a warning against Tajuddin, chaos ensued in the background as Tajuddin alleged used the word “p*k*m*k” which was not picked up by the microphones, causing further uproar.
In the end, besides issuing the warning, Datuk Mohd Rashid informed the MPs who are unsatisfied with the warning given to Tajuddin to submit a motion.
