Ever since parliament proceedings officially began last week, members of parliament (MP) from both the opposition and the government have been answering questions and giving statements that have been making headlines across the nation. This MP’s recent statement has definitely caught a lot of Malaysians’ attentions, to say the least!
Barisan Nasional’s Tan Sri Annuar Musa predicted that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government will not be able to last its current term, as reported by FMT.
He said that his prediction was based on the observation which had shown, many times, the failure of new governments after overthrowing long-time ruling parties.

He cited examples from India and Japan, as quoted in NST.
“Look at the Janata Party (JP), it fell in three years after defeating the Indian National Congress Party, and the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) also fell in three years after defeating the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).”
“Will the PH government suffer the same fate? We don’t know how long but I predict they won’t last the term… the government may change,” he said.
The Ketereh MP stated that the PH government had not been fulfilling their promises.
“Today the rakyat are restless when many promises are not fulfilled. The rakyat are worried when the government is still rooted in sentiments and vengeful efforts, as well as taking cosmetic approaches.”

He also claimed that the government was not respecting the rule of law as it seemed like the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP), Putrajaya’s top advisory council led by former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, has more decision-making power than the actual ministers.
He questioned the authority of CEP members to summon judges to face them, and senior ministers to meet them at its office.
“This is not a healthy practice. The elected reps and ministers should trust in their own capabilities. It also sets a bad precedent when CEP members themselves do not have an absolute clean record,” he added.

Annuar further claimed that Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim had also questioned the credibility of the CEP members. Claiming that the wide powers of CEP were “an insult” to the Cabinet, the Ketereh MP urged the government to dissolve CEP.
