Previously, we shared how Cameron Highlands, Pahang, was named the top rural destination in Asia by digital travel platform Agoda. Renowned for its cool climate and picturesque tea plantations, one aspect that’s lacking in the mountainous destination, though, is its public transportation infrastructure.
However, this may change in the future, as the Pahang State Government recently stated that it’s ready to study a proposal to build a railway line there.

The Pahang State Government is ready to study and scrutinise the proposal to build a railway line in Cameron HighlandsÂ
BERNAMA quoted Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail as saying that such a project may be realised if it has a major impact on the people and the development of infrastructure in Cameron Highlands.
Wan Rosdy’s statement comes amidst rumours of a proposal to build a railway line in the tourist hotspot, involving Tanah Rata, Brinchang and Blue Valley. The proposal is touted as a way to overcome the critical road congestion problem in Cameron Highlands.

However, the Menteri Besar revealed that his party has yet to receive any official proposals from any party regarding the project.
Nevertheless, the State Government is open to studying and scrutinising such a proposal.
“If it can provide convenience (to the public) and improve the infrastructure there, we would consider it,” Wan Rosdy stated.
