Ketum is a leaf derived from a tree named Mitragyna speciosa. It is consumed after it has been boiled.
On 29 December, almost a hundred litres of ketum juice was found in a container situated in the Putrajaya Civil Servants Housing Apartment (PPAM) in Precinct 5, Putrajaya.
The Putrajaya Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Fadzil Ali said that the police found the container of ketum juice in a gas supply room. The police had received a tip-off at 12.30pm which led them to the discovery.
According to Harian Metro, the police personnel said that once they were at the location, they found an orange icebox which contained 61 plastic bottles (1.5l) filled with what was suspected to be ketum juice.
The total amount of ketum juice that was confiscated amounted to a whopping 91.5 litres. The value of the confiscated bottles is estimated at RM1,525. They were no suspects apprehended in that operation.
This case will be investigated under Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
