Over 10,000 PDRM Officers Quarantined Due To Close Contact With Positive Covid-19 Cases
The extension of the Conditional Movement Control Order means that our frontliners including police officers and members of the ATM have to continue working overtime manning roadblocks and guarding borders.
Being in close contact with people all the time has definitely taken a toll as more than 10,000 officers and policemen while at least 200 are undergoing treatment after testing positive for Covid-19, informed Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Hamzah said that the high rate of infection against members of PDRM has seriously affected the team’s efforts to maintain national security, especially in these trying times. Police officers have an extremely high risk of being exposed to the virus as they’re the closest to the people whose level of infection had not been determined.
“Although they (police) wear face masks, the assignment of police officers requires them to communicate closely with the people. Social distancing cannot be applied perfectly in assuring the nation’s security.”
Astro Awani reported that besides manning roadblocks, police officers have also been assigned with the immigration authorities to prevent the intrusion of illegal immigrants through Ops Benteng. The minister requested Malaysians to appreciate the sacrifices of frontliners and together fight this pandemic as ordered by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
He added that the highest appreciation should be given to the PDRM because, since the outbreak, many members of the police force have fought regardless of fatigue.
“Many of them have never rested or spent time with their families. We are running out of time and now is not the time to politicize or lobby for support for certain individuals to become the Prime Minister,” he said.
Highest appreciation to members of the PDRM for their sacrifices in these times. We hope those receiving treatment would have a speedy recovery!
