One of Malaysians’ favourite national dishes, roti canai, was recently ranked as the best bread in the world by TasteAtlas. On Malaysia Day (16 September 2023), our Queen, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah expressed her pride and joy regarding the news!

According to Istana Negara via an official Facebook post, the Queen congratulates Malaysians for making roti canai the best bread in the world, defeating India’s famous roti naan, and Europe which is renowned for producing the best pastries in the world.

The post added that roti canai is the Queen’s favourite food choice too. Along with Columbia’s pan de Bono, roti canai received a rating of 4.9 over 5, becoming the world’s highest-rated bread.

This is not the first time roti canai has received recognition from TasteAtlas. In July this year, it was named the world’s best ‘flatbread’. In September last year, roti canai was also awarded as the world’s best street food.
