In these difficult times, basic essentials like food are harder to come around, especially now that people have started panic-buying again to stock up on goods during the MCO.
Minister of Federal Territories, Annuar Musa took to Barisan Nasional’s Facebook page to announce that he will be distributing free rice to citizens three times a week.
Saya akan berikan beras percuma kepada 3,000 orang setiap minggu yang mana seribu setiap hari. Jadi, pemberian tiga kali…

“I will be giving away free rice to 3,000 citizens every week. Each day of distribution, I will give 1,000 people free rice. The distribution will be conducted three times a week. Those who need the rice can meet the Chairman of their respective Representative councils to receive rice coupons,” he said in his post.
Last week, Putrajaya found itself in standstill traffic as nearly 2,000 citizens rushed to collect free frozen chicken distributed by the Putrajaya UMNO Youth at the Rumah Perlindungan Kuching.
Crowds swarmed the road of Precinct 9 and photos that were later shared on social media revealed the lack of SOPs and physical distancing practiced during the distribution of food as the Youth group did not anticipate such a large turnout of people.
While free food distribution is always welcomed in these precarious times, proper rules and SOPs need to be put into place to ensure that the health and safety of citizens who need these essentials are not jeopardised.
Hopefully, this round of distributions won’t cause any unnecessary crowding and gathering of people.
