Becoming a new parent is definitely not an easy thing to do, especially when you’re faced with countless relatives, friends, and even strangers giving unwarranted parenting advice!
Earlier in October, Noor Nabila (Neelofa’s older sister) and her husband, actor Sharnaaz Ahmad, became new parents when she gave birth to her son.
Like any new mother, Nabila recently took to social media to ask her followers for some advice. In an Instagram post uploaded earlier this week, she asked her followers where she could purchase a specific brand of formula milk because it was hard to find in stores.
However, she was unexpectedly met with a slew of backlash from people on social media who condemned her for using formula milk instead of breastfeeding her son. While some defended her, saying that not all mothers can necessarily breastfeed and that she shouldn’t be shamed, others rebutted saying that any woman can breastfeed if they have a positive attitude.
The truth is, there are many factors that could influence a mother’s ability to breastfeed. Sometimes, a mother cannot lactate due to premature birth, high blood pressure caused by pregnancy, or poorly controlled insulin levels (in diabetic mothers). Other times, studies show that infants who are underweight often need additional supplements like formula milk along with breast milk in order to gain weight. Some just don’t choose to breastfeed entirely because they find giving formula milk is what works best for their child.
Whatever the reason may be, parenting decisions like this should be none of the public’s business. It’s something parents should decide for themselves. The point is we don’t know the entire story, so we should respect what mothers and fathers think is best for their child!
