Former Prime Minister Najib Razak has been behind bars for nearly 3 years now. In between, efforts were made to release him from prison, especially by his family members.

Najib’s son, Nazifuddin Nazib, recently urged the government to release his father from prison before the next General Election (GE), which is scheduled to take place in late 2026. Nazifuddin suggested the government do so because he wanted to see his father and UMNO win again in the coming GE.

And his patience is limited.

“We haven’t resorted to street protests because we trust the government, but our patience is limited.”

With the fight to get Najib out of prison ongoing, Nazifuddin said UMNO has not achieved anything significant since it joined Pakatan Harapan to form the unity government back in 2022. Nazifuddin also claimed that many people are realising that Najib’s era was the best, and that they wanted him back leading the country.

Some allegedly got emotional when talking about the jailed former PM.

“I have participated in many UMNO assemblies, and everyone wanted Najib to come back, and when the Najib video was played at the assembly, the audience burst into tears.”

“Now, everyone can judge how well Najib performed when he was the PM.”

He believes that if Najib returns, UMNO will rise again, and Nazifuddin urges the top leaders in UMNO to seek a pardon for his father. He added that UMNO is no longer able to govern alone and needs “friends”, but it will not abandon its loyal “old friends”, the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and the Malaysian Indian Congress, reported China Press.

Do you think Najib should make a comeback in politics?
