Admittedly, our politicians sometimes do come up with statements that irk the rakyat, because we just can’t brain the logic behind them.

Jackie Chan Wtf

Just recently, our beloved Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Razak said that the federal government will not be subsidising the development of high-speed internet in rural areas simply because the folks there apparently do not need it that much.

“We shouldn’t use the rakyat‘s money to subsidise the development of high-speed internet (in rural areas).

“Areas that have high demand for high-speed internet will receive faster internet speed compared to areas with lesser demand. That’s the reality,” he said.

Nevertheless, the government will still improve the internet service there but with less focus; after all, they’re only following the business model. Not fair la…

Understandably, this has upset Malaysian netizens as many lashed out in the comment section. They feel that it’s unfair for the rural folks since they’re also paying taxes to the government and thus, they should enjoy the same privilege as city dwellers too.

“So you can build a hospital for the Rohingya refugees and invest in America with our money but you can’t improve the internet speed in our very own rural areas? Just because there’s no high demand for high-speed internet doesn’t mean you can take away their rights to enjoy it!” an angry netizen commented.

“This is a smart move by the government to prevent the real ‘dirty’ stories from reaching the rural folks so that they will stay loyal and vote for them in every general election,” another netizen speculated.

Other netizens also pointed out that the internet has limitless potential in exponentially expanding a business, which is what farmers need to promote their produce.

Besides, students in villages can also keep up with the latest information and knowledge, provided they have stable connection of high-speed internet.
